Since 1999, Ecoembes has been classifying the waste and performing quality controls on the materials recovered from lightweight packaging sorting plants. These actions have been extended to other waste flows.
Waste characterization involves the determination of the composition of waste in different fractions. By means of these, we can acquire detailed information with regard to what is being deposited in the selective collection bins, and, depending on what we find, adopt any corrective measures which may be warranted.
Quality control with regard to the recovered material takes place before it is sent to the different recovery agents/recyclers who have been awarded the material. The performance of these controls is based on quality standards known as Technical Specifications for Recovered Materials (ETMR).
Waste characterization and materials quality control are undertaken in accordance with ISO Standard 9001.
Awarding of services
Ecoembes performs characterization and quality control tasks by means of the companies contracted for this purpose, and the contracting is performed by means of the awarding process in accordance with ISO 9001. Services are awarded within geographical areas.
The current contract award runs from 1 January, 2011 to 31 December, 2012.
Companies currently holding awarded contracts are as follows:
INGENIERÍA IDOM INTERNACIONAL, S.A.
APPLUS NORCONTROL S.L.U.
ECA, Entidad Colaboradora de la Administración S.A.U.
EUROCONTROL S.A.
KPMG asesores S.L.
Services awarded
Characterization of waste:
Flow of selective collection of packaging (selective collection bins).
Flow of other waste fraction (raw waste).
Additionally, the characterization of rejects generated in recovery and waste treatment plants is undertaken.
Flow of monomaterial collection – Paper/Cardboard.
Quality control with respect to materials recovered in:
Light packaging sorting plants.
Raw waste treatment plants.
Technical Specifications of Recovered Materials (ETMR)
All of the material which comes out classified, whether from lightweight packaging sorting plants or from raw waste treatment plants, and is sent to recovery agents/recyclers, must comply with certain requirements which guarantee its quality.
To this effect, an analysis was performed on the different fractions of materials recovered in the plants. The quality reference specifications with which the recovered materials must comply are known as ETMR (Technical Specifications for Recovered Materials).
