Packaging Colletion

Once the products have been consumed, and the packaging no longer fulfils the use for which it was created, it becomes waste, and it is at this time when it must be recovered separately from the rest of the waste, in order to make its recycling possible.

Ecoembes, as the manager of the Integrated Management System for the selective recovery of light packaging waste, as well as paper/cardboard, signs agreements with the Autonomous Regions and Local Entities (City Councils, Consortiums, Associations…) to pay the extra cost faced by the Entities as a result of selectively collecting the packaging rather than using traditional waste collection, pursuant to these agreements and in compliance with the Packaging Law, given that it is the municipalities themselves that are responsible for the introducing and carrying out the selective collection of packaging waste.

Currently, Ecoembes maintains agreements with almost all Spanish Municipalities, serving a population of approximately 46 million.

In addition, Ecoembes advises Entities in respect of the existing models for the application of this packaging  collection. Technical papers on the modeling of collection can be found at the following link.

Likewise, Ecoembes has control mechanisms to ensure proper compliance of all operations in the agreements signed with the aim of improving the quality of the material collected and the service provided to citizens.

Along the same lines, Ecoembes carries out Supplementary Collections in collaboration with different organizations or entities, such as football stadiums, conference centres, airports, penitentiaries, music festivals…, in order to develop projects for the introduction of a selective collection system. In this manner, packaging waste is recovered at places or events where the environmental awareness of citizens will be greatly increased, a large amount of domestic waste is generated, and municipal waste collection is not interfered with.
