Frequently asked questions

Why does a non-profit like Ecoembes have shareholders?
Because the law requires packagers to create an organisation with its own legal entity which, under the non-negotiable premise of being non-profit, can be established as a public limited company with the aim not only of streamlining and making its operation more efficient, but above all for the sake of transparency: with this legal form, all directors have criminal liability for compliance with capital company regulations.
Furthermore, this legal form implies the existence of a shareholder structure representing the main stakeholders, including large companies and sectoral associations of packaging companies, distributors and packaging material entities. However, as it is a non-profit organisation, it cannot distribute dividends or profits as a private company would, since Ecoembes does not generate profits.
