Frequently asked questions

How can Ecoembes be a “non-profit organisation” and at the same time consist of large multinational companies?
It is a non-profit organisation primarily because current regulations require it to be so. Among other things, this means that Ecoembes must maintain a financial balance whereby its expenses equal its income. Thus, Ecoembes' annual results must always be zero, and any surpluses must be set aside for subsequent financial years. This income, which is allocated entirely to the maintenance of the domestic packaging recycling system in our country, also comes from the companies responsible for placing this packaging on the market, in accordance with the basic principle of ‘the polluter pays’.
